Calculations Based on Data
The images below are of the paper calculations I made to determine all of the variables not found in our data collection from our catapult launches. I included in my calculations a couple of lines to determine the flight time of the baseball in each of our trials.
The flight times were actually found in our data, but we found them to be flawed when we began our initial calculations as a group; the final equations we determined from the rest of our data made the times 3-4 seconds less than they were in our data. I spent a day or so on this conundrum, and finally determined that if one knows the distance, angle of elevation, and initial height of the launch, one can calculate a projectile's flight time. Below is a piece of paper that I used for scratch work, that roughly shows how I found the formula for flight time.
