The first Humanities project of the school year, the Cowbird project was a mini-project intended to help us practice our creative writing before things got super serious. We had to think of moments in our lives that left scars, mental or physical, and describe them with sensory detail. My first Cowbird post, about backpacking in the middle of a light sandstorm, is one of my favorite backpacking stories to tell. There's more to the story than what I posted, but it was meant to be about a moment. If you're wondering how this is a scar, I'll just say that I don't recommend ever being in a sandstorm, light or not.
My second Cowbird post was my favorite post; I think that it was more meaningful, and described something in detail that many people probably haven't experienced. Towards the end of the project, on September 3rd, I had to leave school for two and a half weeks to get and recover from corrective surgery for my scoliosis. Strangely, I remember perfectly what it was like to fall asleep under anesthesia, so I wrote my second Cowbird post on that. Enjoy the posts!
