Origami Art Pieces
Below are the two origami art pieces that I created for this project. The left piece, the 8-Petalled Flower, was my main origami art piece. I only created the right piece, the Rabbit Head, for the kindergarten class because the 8-Petalled Flower would have been too difficult. Since the 8-Petalled Flower was my main piece, I wrote my artist statement about that piece.
8-Petalled Flower Artist Statement
When I selected the 8-Petalled Flower, I was looking for an origami piece that wouldn’t be interesting for me but not too hard for an elementary-schooler, and that would have some geometric qualities so that I could base one or two proofs off of its folds. It took me several hours to find something that fit these criteria; the 8-Petalled Flower was the first origami piece I found that did so.
A flower symbolizes fleeting beauty; it takes a good while to develop and grow, and once done, it thrives vibrantly for all to see for a little while, before fading and dying. Sad as this might seem, this is a good metaphor for Sadako’s life, since she was full of life - certainly the most vibrant person in the story - for only a short but happy lifetime, before fading and dying because of her leukemia.

Folding Instructions
Unfortunately, the unpaid version of Weebly will allow a maximum upload size of 10 megabytes, so my folding instructions are too large to directly insert as .pdf documents.
