After testing our new products, Recipes 1-3, we put them through the same tests that our brand-name products underwent. Please click here to view the results and our analysis.
The final step before creating our new products was forming the recipes and procedures needed to do so. Please click here to view our recipes for three ingredient combinations.
This sheet was done as a group assignment: we had to take every unwanted ingredient from our chosen brand-name product - Clear Start Acne Wash - and replace it with something better or remove it entirely. Please click here to view our substitution tables.
In this sheet, I found and wrote up a viable substitution for Sorbitan Oleate. Please click here to view my sheet about Candelilla Wax, which is also commonly used in acne medications.
Because my original ingredient that I chose, Salicylic Acid, is an active ingredient in medications, I had great difficulty finding and writing up a substitution for it. Thus, please click here to view my new ingredient analysis sheet for Sorbitan Oleate.
We devised five tests to test certain properties of each of our brand-name products, wrote down observations during the tests, and formulated a formal lab report afterwards. Please click here to read our product testing lab report, or if you prefer, please click here to view our raw data/observation tables.
Before creating our new products and testing them, we had three preparation steps to fill out. Please click on the following links to view our first step, our second step, and our third step.
1. What is the purpose of this ingredient in your product?
The purpose of Salicylic Acid is to exfoliate the insides of clogged pores; if a pore is clogged with bacteria and dead skin cells, the acid will break the bonds holding everything together and will clear out the pore. It is also an exfoliating agent in low concentrations. 2. What are some safe substitutions? Lactic Acid is sometimes used as a weaker, but gentler active ingredient in acne medications. In this assignment, my partner and I each chose an ingredient from our four tables that could be hazardous, and did further research on it. Please click here to view my Ingredient Analysis document.
