SAVE FRED!
PURPOSE
The purpose of this lab is to save Fred the Gummy Worm's life, which entails placing him inside his life preserver inside his "boat" (a plastic cup), without killing him; that is, without touching any of the three items, without dropping Fred in the "water," without just leaving him on top of the cup, and without dropping him off of the "water."
PROCEDURE
DATA/OBSERVATIONS
CONCLUSION
Hooks were the most effective method that we found of lifting/holding/saving Fred.
ERROR ANALYSIS
The paper clips were too short for holding Fred; even though I was trying my best not to touch Fred, my fingers brushed against him a couple of times.

PROCEDURE
- We formed hooks from the four paper clips.
- We lifted Fred by grabbing him from underneath - not by stabbing him - with hooks #1 and #2.
- We flipped the cup over by prying it up with hooks #3 and #4.
- We lifted the life preserver with hooks #'s 3 and 4 by inserting them inside the ring.
- We grabbed the life preserver securely with hook #3 by pinching it.
- We pushed and pulled Fred halfway through the life preserver with the other three hooks.
- We placed Fred - in his life preserver - in his righted cup.
DATA/OBSERVATIONS
- paper clips formed into hooks were effective to lift Fred
- the life preserver needed to be held more securely than hooks could hold it
- we had to flip the cup to get at the life preserver
