Prompt: One's life is made up of moments.
My moments tend to be a little longer than normal; some might be half an hour, some might be several hours, and some might be an entire week. Most of these longer moments come from my boy scout troop. I do, or course, have the "normal sized" moments, such as beginning a new piano piece or giving a speech in a Model UN debate, but my best stories all come from these longer moments.
One of the most memorable "longer moments" I had came over Memorial Day weekend of this year, on a backpacking trip in the Golden Trout Wilderness of the High Sierras. This was one of the most strenuous hikes I have been on yet - 50 miles in 2 1/2 days - and as one might imagine, all nine of us on the hike were exhausted towards the end of the longest day. One of our adult leaders was trying to push a branch out of the way, but it came back and hit him in the eye. Bleeding, he decided to go on ahead to the camp with three others, leaving me with the most experienced adult leader and three younger scouts. And it was growing dark.
